  Indo-German Biodiversity Programme Newsletter
Women at the forefront of sustainable livelihood
This newsletter shares project updates and thematic news from our programme
A service by IGBP, GIZ

Dear Readers,

We are delighted to present the twenty-fifth edition of our bimonthly newsletter. With this, our engagement through the newsletter enters its fifth year. While we will continue bringing stories and updates from our projects across the country, this year we have decided to bring to spotlight stories of gender transformative approaches in conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. It is well recognised that women and other marginalised groups are disproportionately affected by biodiversity loss and climate change. Target 23 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework calls for ensuring gender equality and a gender-responsive approach to biodiversity action. Do watch out for the spotlight articles during the course of this year on gender and biodiversity.

In this edition, along with other project updates we bring an encouraging story of collaboration between local authorities, communities, businesses, tourists and religious institutions towards effective waste management during the weeklong annual Renuka ji fair with over 400,000 visitors.

We thank you for your continuous support and welcome your valuable feedback towards further improving our engagement with you.

Warmly,
Editors

Illustrative factsheets on wetland values and benefits and threats to the wetland were prepared in English and vernacular languages for 4 project sites, namely, Point Calimere, Bhitarkanika, Pong and Renuka in 2019-2020 for communication and engagement with the local stakeholders.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), along with its knowledge partners, including WISA, WWF and GIZ, scaled up this exercise to include all the Ramsar sites of the country and a factsheet compilation was then released in CMS CoP 2020. The booklet is now periodically revised to include all the wetlands in the ever-growing network of Ramsar Sites of India. Link to the latest edition
