Consultation workshop on Capacity Needs Assessment for North Bengal region under the project ‘Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation in India’ (HWC) organized in Siliguri, West Bengal

A regional level consultation workshop for West Bengal was organized on 25th -26th June 2018 at Hotel Sinclairs, Siliguri to facilitate discussion and dialogue among wildlife managers in the North Bengal region and to assess the existing and future capacity development needs relevant to human wildlife conflict mitigation.

Sh M. R. Baloch, Addl. PCCF North Bengal delivered the welcome address during the workshop, while the special address was delivered by Sh Soumitra Dasgupta, IGF (WL) MoEFCC. Dr Neeraj Khera, Team Leader of the HWC project, GIZ, gave an overview of the project as well as set the theme of the workshop.

During the two-day workshop, the participants deliberated and shared their inputs on finalizing the common goals of the department with regard to HWC mitigation; competencies required to achieve these goals, and the TNA formats for individual and manager’s assessments. The inputs from this workshop have helped the project in further strengthening the capacity Needs Assessment framework and methodology which will now be shared with other states. The revised goals, competencies and TNA format will be used to assess the capacity development needs vis-à-vis HWC mitigation in all States and at National level in India.
