Participatory Approach for Cross-sector Cooperation: An insight into the Human Capacity Development component of the CMPA project

23 May, 2016

There are many ways in which individuals and organisations can contribute towards conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity. One such way is capacity development of key stakeholders, since individual and institutional capacity is the basic foundation for all conservation efforts. CMPA project has a special component on “Human Capacity Development,” which seeks to facilitate capacity development of key stakeholders using innovative and participatory approaches.

One of the strategic goals of the Human Capacity Development (HCD) efforts under the GIZ's CMPA project is to enhance the understanding and appreciation of coastal and marine biodiversity amongst key sectors and stakeholders, as well as to facilitate the co-creation of solutions for effective and sustainable management of coastal and marine protected areas. The measures under the HCD are implemented together with the national and state level training organisations, State Government department, and experts to achieve specific capacity development objectives. The project engages with different sectors and stakeholders that are crucial for management of coastal and marine biodiversity.

The HCD measures are implemented as per the following strategic plan:

The CMPA project is achieving the above mentioned goals under its HCD component through:

On the occasion of the International day for Biological Diversity: 22 May, 2016, our trainee participants shared their insights into how the various trainings provided by the HCD component of the CMPA project has helped improved their understanding of coastal and marine biodiversity.

From our Trainee Participants:

Delivering capacity development support for individuals, organisations and societies is one of GIZ’s core competencies. GIZ’s approach to Human Capacity Development (HCD) puts the individual at the heart of our strategies and measures. Our HCD measures aim at facilitating changes in the actions of individuals and the results of the changed contributions of individuals within their system of reference.

The CMPA project is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag. The CMPA project is implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of BMUB.
