For the successful implementation of the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework, several priorities have to change. A major challenge is to customize and redesign financial instruments to ensure the evaluation of investment plans for potential risks to nature; or to create incentives for biodiversity-friendly investment into value chains.
The global Private Business Action for Biodiversity (PBAB) project facilitated a session on “Biodiversity Finance for Healthy Landscapes and Sustainable Value Chains” at Global Landscape Forum (GLF) Biodiversity Digital conference on “One World – One Health” on 28th October 2020. The session highlighted promising trends in sustainable finance. Experts provided examples of how these trends can be strengthened as part of the challenges faced by economies and societies. An important aspect was integrating these measures into COVID-19 recovery plans.
The session brought together expert practitioners from the public and private sectors from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America. Discussions focused on current approaches to financial instruments, good practices, lessons learnt, bringing successful approaches to scale and linking COVID-19 response measures to financing for a biodiversity-friendly future.

The global PBAB project promotes promising methods and instruments for biodiversity-friendly production and commercialisation. It tests and enhances them and systematises the experience gained in a way that enables both private and public actors to use them. In India, the project addresses spice cultivation in the Western Ghats, a mountain range in southern India that is known for its great biodiversity.
