In consultation with MoEFCC and State Wetland Authorities, state-level institutions have been identified for Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh, namely, Tamil Nadu Forest Academy, Chilika Development Authority and Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment, respectively. These institutes will conduct specific trainings on Wetlands Management for different stakeholder groups in the respective states and help formulise a scalable Wetlands Management training plan for the country.

An inception meeting was held in Bhubaneswar, on 28th September 2022 with these institutes along with representatives of respective State Wetland Authorities, wetland experts and forest officers from Assam. The meeting was conducted to discuss the training implementation processes in project states.
This was followed by a three-day long Training of Trainers (ToT), facilitated by Options and Solutions. The ToT brought together the learnings from traditional and participatory training methods, different concepts of facilitation and practical application of the different tools. Over the three days, participants learned and applied various brainstorming and group work methods; participated and conducted icebreaking sessions ; and developed and demonstrated training plans.

The Wetlands Management for Biodiversity and Climate Protection project aims to strengthen the institutional framework and capacities for an ecosystem-based integrated management of wetlands of international importance (Ramsar sites) in India. Four Ramsar sites have been selected as pilot sites under the project: Pong Dam and Renuka Lake in Himachal Pradesh, Bhitarkanika Mangroves in Odisha, and the Point Calimere Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu. The project is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in close cooperation with the National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystems (NPCA). This project is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag.
