CMPA studies on the ecological status of Chorao’s mangroves presented at the ‘National Conference on Mangrove Ecosystem’ held at the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa

On the occasion of the International Mangrove Day on 26thJuly, the Mangrove Society of India organized a National Conference on Mangrove Ecosystem on 26th - 27th July, 2017, a the National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, Goa.

Two papers that resulted from the ecological baseline assessments for the Chorao Island commissioned by the CMPA project were presented at the Conference. The two papers were written and presented by the scientists from TERI, were also co-authored by Dr. Anil Kumar from the Goa Forest Department and Dr. Aaron S. Lobo of GIZ.

The papers presented were:

  • Ecological Status Assessment of Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and the Estuarine Areas of Chorao Island”
  • Small UAV Technology for Mapping Mangrove Species Diversity”

The thematic areas covered during this two day national conference included - mangroves from space, mangrove ecosystem functioning, ecosystem services, response of mangroves to environment changes, conservation and management and mangrove biodiversity.
