International Day for Biological Diversity 2017 celebration at Uttarakhand

On the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB), an event was organised at Dehradun, Uttarakhand by Uttarakhand State Biodiversity Diversity Board (UKSBB). The theme for this year was ‘Biodiversity & Sustainable Tourism’, thus the event witnessed participation from Eco-tourism department and other related departments of the state government.

The event had following components :

  • Main event.
  • Traditional Knowledge Exhibition.
  • Photograh Exhibitio.
  • Competition on photography, poster Video etc.

Forest Minister of the Uttarakhand visiting the ABS (GIZ+UKSBB) stall

The Forest Minister in his speech in the main event said that relating Biodiversity to Sustainable Tourism is the key challange for the state at policy level. An invited lecture was also given the famous nature photographer Mr. Anoop Shah. He informed the audience regarding the Biodiversity and nature tourism with various pictures and photographs.


TK Exhibtion

The Traditional Knowledge exhibition was the main attraction of the event, the chairman of the state Board Dr. Rakesh Shah introduced GIZ to the honourable Forest minister.

The following stalls were exhibited in the exhibition:

  • Traditional Craft (Lok Sewa Samiti, Ranikhet).
  • Biological resource (nettle fibre) based craft showcase and GIZ initiative.
  • Traditional human and veternary healers based on medicinal plant.
  • Eco-tourism and sustainable.
  • Biodiversity Sustainable waste management.
  • Traditional craft system of Kumaon (CHEA, Pithauragarh & Nainital).

The Member –Secretary of the board Mr. SS Rasaily, thanked GIZ for the contributions and Technical support in orgnaising the exhibition. Which will also be mentioned in the final report submitted to NBA.
