Establishment of Market Linkages between Users from Nagpur & Providers of bio-resources from Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra

Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board (MSBB) in cooperation with the ABS Partnership Project supported by GIZ, has taken the onus of facilitating dialogue and developing direct linkages between users & providers of bio-resources in Maharashtra. Under this initiative, a Scoping Workshop was organized on 8th Jan 2018 with an goal of establishing a market linkage between bio resource based industries from Nagpur and Community organizations from Gadchiroli, supported by Gondwana Herbs Initiative of Forest Department, Gadchiroli. Representative of around 11 bio resource based industries and Ayurvedic Drug Manufacturers Association (ADMA) participated in this workshop. Chairperson of Gondwana Herbs Vanaushadi Vaidu Mandal facilitate the interaction with industries.

Key issues highlighted in the discussion were :

  • Ensuring supply of high quality Bio resources
  • Fulfilling demands for rare species available in forest of Gadchiroli
  • Improve the scope for offering a competitive pricing standard and opening up credit facilities to buyers
  • Opportunity to encourage value addition to the product through certification, such as Organic, Fair Wild etc.

Dr Dilip Singh, Member Secretary, MSBB expressed his willingness towards addressing these issues and assured all possible support from State Biodiversity Board in facilitating the linkages.

This workshop was a stepping stone towards the establishment of a unique "Good Practice" that ensures fair and equitable sharing of benefits between users & providers arising from utilization of bio resources.
